The speedriding school: ski and paraglide at the same time!

Speed Riding

Speed riding, the new winter sport!

Do you love the ambient majesty of snowy mountains? Can you ski off-piste? Are you drawn to flying?

Then you will love speed riding!

With Skieo, discover the mountain in a way you've never seen: marvel at the natural, open spaces that speed riding can offer you, along with the possibility to move in three dimensions!

Speed riding. What is it?

Basically, you move with skis on your feet and a small paragliding wing above your head..

T
horough training is provided on a 'school slope' — a safe, snow-covered slope conducive for learning but not for take-off. On the slope, you can become accustomed to the feeling of the wing above you while learning the basics of how to handle the wing. You can also practice sliding down and doing small jumps while connected by radio with your instructor.

This progression allows you to gain altitude bit-by-bit and gives you a real sensation of sliding in three dimensions!

Whether you want to 'float' on the slopes or fly further a-field, or whether you're eager to simply test the feeling of free-ride skiing with a wing above your head or to get to fields only accessible with a wing, nothing is impossible if you decide to learn and progress step-by-step with Skieo!

Speed riding is not always an extreme sport. Like all activities, it can be practiced at different levels of ability.

For Skieo, speed riding provides a new way to explore the mountain. We want you to have fun learning how to fly and ski for maximum enjoyment without sacrificing safety.

The Skieo team, made up of qualified instructors, are here to answer your questions and let you discover speed riding with maximum safety.

Who can try speed riding?

If you can get down blue pistes in control, you can try speed riding. In fact, the sport is allowed anywhere off-piste in local ski resorts, so you will need to be able to control your skis on ungroomed snow and to be comfortable with putting your skis back on in deep powder.

You must have air civil responsibility (RCA) insurance. Skieo can provide this for you by affiliating you with the FFVL (Fédération Française de Vol Libre, the French federation for free flight).

Speed riding is an activity regulated in France by the FFVL.

Speed riding instructors must be paragliding instructors who also specialise in speed riding. Skieo is a school approved by the FFVL, and our instructors were among the first to obtain the speed riding specialisation regulations. In addition, Skieo's instructors are qualified ski instructors, which means you're surrounded by mountain experts, providing you with maximum safety.

Why choose Skieo?

For more than ten years, Fabien Blanco, co-founder of Skieo, has shared his passion for the mountain by giving tailored skiing lessons in winter and paragliding lessons in summer.

So, it's natural that Skieo, approved by FFVL, launched the discipline that synthesised these two activities — speed riding. However, when it began, this new discipline had no sufficient teaching framework to fulfill the requirements of Skieo concerning the safety of the pupils.

Fabien Blanco therefore worked with the FFVL on defining a teaching framework adapted for speed riding to ensure maximum safety, which is now in place. In order to do that, he used his experience as a teacher for paragliding instructors specialising in doing flight incident simulation and acrobatics training.

So, Skieo was one of the first schools to teach speed riding, and is still the only school that offers made-to-measure training for individuals or up to four people!

Skieo also offers standard training courses, with two instructors, for groups of ten pilots!

All our speed riding instructors are paragliding instructors and have other qualifications such as ski instruction and mountaineering, and experience in world competitions for cross-country flying or stunt flying.

By choosing Skieo, you're naturally making the right choice to progress in this new and fun discipline!
